OMG….That was so touching…..I totally understand what your feeling. My Dad just passed away 12-3-09. He was 92 and had Dementia. I would go visit him in the nursing home…..he did not know my name….but he said he knew we were related….always had a big smile on his face when he seen me coming down the hallway….he would tell people she’s my cousin….and that was alright with me. My best advice for you and family is to hold onto all your wonderful memories of him……it helps me alot. I’m in no way a wonderful writer like you…..but I would like to share a little poem I wrote the night he left us.
I thought I was ready…
I thought I was prepared….
But, now that the time has come,
All I do is sit and stare….
I’m hoping the Angels….
Can see my Dad as I do…..
And always treat him “Special”
With everything they may do….
Even though we must part….
There will always be a “Special ” place Dad….
For you in my heart…..
My thoughts are with you and family Michael
