What is it all about?
My wife asked me this question the other day and I have to admit it puzzled my puzzler.
It’s a good question.
A deep question.
As busy as we both are with work, the 3 girls, the house, getting the cars fixed,
cooking supper, making a life, at the end of the day we look at each other and
shake our heads and wonder; what is it all about?
There was a point in our lives that we thought we knew but now we’re not so sure.
I know what it’s not about.
It’s not about the internet, Facebook, Yahoo, Gmail, the Stock Market, major league sports,
water polo, horse races or the lottery.
Not about cats, dogs, parakeets, beta fish, koalas or
freshly shucked oysters with freshly squeezed lemons.
It is definitely not about horseradish. (although I like to think so)
It’s not about the greenhouse effect or the nasty oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The question is why do we work our fingers to the bone only to die so soon after we have retired?
Tired is a lonely town.
I realize that bills need to be paid and food needs to be put on the table
so work needs to be done.
But at what cost?
It is something to ponder.
Pamela is still thinking about it, I’m sure.
Me, too.
And for most of us, life goes on.
Or so we hope.
Maybe it’s just (in the words of Douglas Adams) all about the number 42
{1 \over T}\int_0^T \left| \zeta\left({1 \over 2} + it\right) \right|^6\,dt \sim {42 \over 9!}\prod_p \left\{1-{1\over p}\right\}^4 \left( 1 + {4 \over p} + {1 \over p^2} \right) \log^9 T
Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Here’s to the answers and the endless Questions . . .

so long as you don’t spend so much time theorizing about the question that you never get around to being an experimentalist…

I’m always wondering about weird stuff. There are so many amazing things to think about during our life time and sometimes it just drives me to ask the big question.
Gravity, volcanoes, the inside of the earth, the caves inside the ocean, other planets, the inside of the human body, the miracle of birth,emotions,etc…..there are endless questions.
Sometime I feel like Charlie Brown when he says ” I just don’t get it. ”
I think I need a vacation.

I like Daisyfae’s and Pam’s comments.
Doing the ole deep question trick, just to get people to spend more time on your blog….
I have no answers. And I don’t have time this morning to sit here and think about it. You tempter, you.

Nope, it’s none of those things. The Hokey-Pokey, now that’s what it’s all about.

What difference does it make?
:hat:

I don’t think it matters whether *it* makes a difference, but i believe it matters if *you* make a difference..and you do…surely that’s what counts? {assuming anything counts that is}

I could go with the whole “life is a journey” quote, but then I realized that I don’t have enough money for gas.
Ah well.
~m, honestly, I have no clue. Just when I think I am beginning to get some idea of what this life is about, BAM! We have another kid.
So I try not to think about it. It hurts too much.

I have pondered this so often it seems redundant… yet I know it is not… the finality in my world and mind is simple… it is all about the questions, the act of learning and continuing the search… for what makes us different? what makes us unique? it is in our ability to question and search, learn and grow… my opinion… “It’s not about major league sports” I have it in writing… I have proof!
blessings on your search for the answer… and btw after finding 42 in “The Hitchhikers Guide”I tried my hardest to find a way for this to be the answer… no luck…
