blogging, truth, thoughts, Smoke and Mirrors, disappear, questions

I StumbledUpon a short article one night that stopped me in my tracks.
It was titled, “If your blog disappeared, who would miss it?”
I thought about the question for a good long time and came to the conclusion that, yeah,
there are many people that would miss it.
I do hope I’m right.
I am no egomaniac but I do feel that some folks would, yours truly being one.
I’ve been blogging now for almost five years with no foreseeable end in sight.
It’s been the reaction to my words and thoughts that’s kept me going strong for 5, to be honest.
Some comments I’ve received are seemingly deeper than the posts I’ve written.
It would seem that I’m fishing for compliments here, but I am definitely not.
I have 5 questions for anyone kind enough to take the time to answer them.
I appreciate your honesty and feedback.

  1. What is it that makes you visit me again?
  2. What do you not like about Smoke and Mirrors? (be honest)
  3. What would you like to see more of (or less of) in the future?
  4. Would you like to see something different?
  5. What is your favorite post and why? (longtime readers only)

There are more questions that I have but I don’t want to keep you here forever
(a little white lie, methinks)
I made this post relatively short to give you a few moments to comment.
I thank all of you dearly in advance.

1.What is it that makes you visit me again?

as you said – the resonance is what pulls me in…

2.What do you not like about Smoke and Mirrors? (be honest)

i like the eclectic nature of “S&M” – you never know what you’re going to get! but because of the eclecticity (not really a word), sometimes there is less ‘resonance’ for me… cigar lust, for example, isn’t my bag, but i appreciate the passion with which you write about it!

3.What would you like to see more of (or less of) in the future?

it’s your sounding board. write what you need. i’ll comment when it pings me!

4.Would you like to see something different?

nope! your blog. you’ve been doing a bang up job, fella, for 5 years. rock on!

5.What is your favorite post and why? (longtime readers only)

it was the post about ‘going home’ just over a year ago (i think)… writing about the homestead where you grew up. really struck me… the posts about your parents are the ones that resonate most with me…

If I had t-shirts for first comments, you would get one.
I love not only your comments but the fact that you understand them, implicitly.
I value your thoughts for one simple reason: you are a great blogger and writer.
More people need to visit your blog.
    Simple.
    Period.
    Amen.
Thank you so much for your input on this post.
    Much appreciated.

    Hmmm…interesting.
There are quite a few blogs that have disappeared in recent times, and there’s not one of them that I miss, because, as it transpired, they didn’t really have a lot of substance.
    Yours I would miss enormously.
Part of that is because it was my first real baby if that makes sense? {I’m sure it does}, but there are far deeper reasons than that, as I’m also sure you know.
I’ll see if I can make sense of this little ramble with answers to the questions you ask.
    1. Your words speak to me, and have from the very first time I visited here, some 3 1/2 years ago.
    2. Cheat posts! You have far more to offer us than videos or funny pics. Having said that I do understand why you sometimes need to do them.
    3. “Those posts” Enough said.
    4. No. Why fix what’s not fucked? {having said that, it’s nice to see the same theme for longer than 5 mins :wink: }
    5. Far too many to list, but I can tell you that every last one of them was one of the aforementioned “those posts”
Didn’t mean to go on as much as I did, but unlike the blogs I spoke of being deleted, this post had some substance and deserved a comment along similar lines.

    Your baby?
    Ya think?!
I have you to thank for so many things, this beautiful template and blog for starters.
As far as your comments go, I knew what you would say anyway.
(we don’t talk enough, do we? lol)
Posted something tonight that may take care of the ‘those posts’ jones.
Thanks for all that you’ve done for me here (Mark, as well)
I hope you know how much I appreciate it.
    Love you both.

    5. The ones about Mum and Dad. They hit a spot not too many people see.
    Hope this helps
    Mark

That you feel close to me and mine is awesome, mate.

    1. Your artistry with the written word

    3. & 4. Do what pleases you- that is what pleases me.
    5. I had never read anyone who actually made me feel as if I knew them.

I love the beautiful themes, the written words, the random humor, I am just honored that you share with us.

For you, I am blessed, KLC.
Thank you so much for the comment.
I will continue on my writing journey.

If my blog disappeared, I’d miss it. I write for myself; if anyone else enjoys it, that’s just gravy.

    1. You write wonder, deep, beautiful things.
    2. The “cheat posts” mentioned by someone else.
    3. More of the thought-provoking stuff
    4. Your blog, your choice
    5. Of what I’ve read, the one about the single little star in the night sky

I had to thank everyone that posted on this.
Not sure which post that was but if it helped you, healed you or made you have a better day, I can ask for no more. I thank you for having the nads to comment on this.
    Not many have.
As far as the thought provoking stuff, my wife has already kicked my ass. ;)

{yawning….} Now what were those questions?

    1. I keep visiting because I like it here. I feel welcome. I get entertained. You post good pictures, good music, good writing. 2. I can’t say that there’s anything I don’t like. Except maybe the stuff I don’t understand (but a little mystery is fun, too.) 3. I would love to see/hear more of YOUR music. Pics of you from 15 years ago! 4. Different? How about some kind of reader contest? And you could give cigars as prizes. 5. Let me go cruise the archives and get back with my favorite post.
There are so many that come to mind.
Any my memory has holes in it! The first one I ever commented on (I think) – I’d like to read that one again. The morning train, a church steeple or clock, something I can’t remember, and then the bald man wearing a cap! Ha!

Hey, asking readers to answer questions is pretty good, too! Anything. Just don’t disappear, okay?

    I refuse to disappear.
Photos of me from long ago? Possibly.
    Bald man?
    That’s me, for sure.
I am so glad that you feel welcome here. I think I’ve wanted that ever since the start.
Not sure if you followed me from Blogger but I have to say you hold a special place in my heart, Lolly.
For so very many reasons . . . my new knitted hat for one (a picture will appear here very soon)
Thanks for being you, kiddo, and thanks for the input.

Took a stroll through your archives. The one I mentioned above was 5:55. Some of my other favorites are Wysteria, 5 miles to Vandemeer, Goodnight Irene, Vegemite Man, and Three Words (love the picture of the boy and dog.)

You listed several of my favorites.
I love that you connect with these posts.
5:55 was a distant morning thought that was inspired by the clocktower
of the college Sarah went to. I drove by it every morning and its illuminated face made
    me think of her.
5 Miles to Vandmere was a dream and Goodnight Irene was pretty close to a dream.
I thank you for trolling the archives and pulling this stuff up by the roots.
That my writing has been a part of your life makes me feel truly blessed.
    Thank you.

What is it that makes you visit me again?

You have a wonderful spirit, a wonderful heart

What do you not like about Smoke and Mirrors? (be honest)
The only thing is sometimes there are some mature topics (i’m a bit shy…but your readers seem to like it, so don’t go by me, my friends call me an old lady)

What would you like to see more of (or less of) in the future?
You’re poetry!!! You have a gift

Would you like to see something different?

    Nope… this site is beautiful

What is your favorite post and why? (longtime readers only)
I love your poetry, there have been a couple about your father and mother that have left me in tears… there is something soft about your spirit, unpretentious, almost sad. Beautiful nonetheless… and the love you speak of your wife and children… you’re alright M

    My poetry . . .
    Ah, my stumbling block, actually.
I find it very difficult to compose things that could be construed as poetry or prose.
It’s probably because I’ve never been taught or studied the subject.
I feel like more of an apprentice and newbie, if that makes sense.
I don’t post much prose for the sake of sounding dumb because of my innocence and naivete of the art.
I do appreciate that you have asked for more and will deliver at some point in time.
A comment like this from you is a bit overwhelming, to be honest.
I hold you very high on the ladder in that department.
    I thank you dearly, Enreal

Art is art… there is no “right” definition to it… same applies to poetry and prose… Give yourself some credit ~m others do…

I can always count on you Enreal for love and support.
      Thank you, dearly
